SUN Trail

SUN Trail stands for Shared-Use Non-Motorized Trail Network that was created under Florida Statues 339.81. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is directed to make use of its expertise in efficiently providing transportation projects to develop a statewide system of paved non-motorized trails as a component of the Florida Greenways and Trails System (FGTS), which is planned by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). $25 million is funded annually from new vehicle tag revenues to support this program. To be eligible for funding, proposed trails must meet eligibility criteria developed by FDOT and the Office of Greenways and Trails.
